Mako Cutting BoardsDrew McBee; Designer
Austinburg, OH

The MAKO woodshop is located in Austinburg, Ohio right next to what is known locally as Coffee Creek in a renovated 147 year old barn. MAKO got its start as a result of a family dispute between my wife, Christine, and her brother over a pig shaped cutting board. To resolve said dispute, I purchased a beautiful rough-cut length of Ambrosia Maple and set about recreating the cutting board with the intention of giving to my wife at her next birthday. I ended up with two, one large and one small, and found that I was really pleased with the results. She loved them, and soon the petty dispute was forgotten.

I make these boards because I love being able to take a rough slab of hardwood, and create something truly beautiful and useful at the same time. And I love knowing that each one is different in its way and that these boards in particular are far superior in construction, design, and longevity than anything else out there. And finally, I love being able to share them with others.
